In this article I’ll show you how to install WordPress on Hostgator. We’ll use the QuickInstall function (a simple way to install software on your website) inside the cPanel (your hosting control panel) – don’t worry it’s very easy .
Note: If you prefer to see how it’s done instead of reading about it there’s a video at the bottom of this page (jump to video). And if you don’t already have a Hostgator account you’re welcome to use the Hostgator coupon (2012).
The first thing you have to do is to log in to the cPanel. To do this, simply go to your browser and type in the URL of your website followed by “/cpanel” (like this: yoursite.com/cpanel). And use the information you received in the welcome email from Hostgator to log in.
How to Install WordPress in cPanel
Scroll down to the “Software/Services” section near the bottom of the page and click on the QuickInstall icon:
Choose “WordPress” in the menu on the left, under “Blog Software” – inside the QuickInstall application:
Then you’ll get some information about version number and size, but all you have to do here is to click the “Continue” button to proceed:
Next you have to fill in the fields that appear. Leave the Application URL blank (first field) if you want to use WordPress as your main site (my general recommendation). But if you already have a website installed and just want to add a blog to it, then type in the directory you want it installed to (if you type in “blog” then WordPress will be installed on yoursite.com/blog).
Make sure to use a valid email address in the “Admin email” field, as the login information will be emailed to this address after successful installation.
You can fill in the “Blog Title”, “First Name” & “Last Name” if you want, but you don’t have to and you can always change it later.
When you are done, click the “Install Now!” button and QuickInstall will start the process of installing WordPress on your website – it should only take a moment.
When your new website is installed you will get a confirmation message like the one below:
And you will also receive an email that looks something like this:
To visit your new website simply follow one of the links or type in the address in your browser. To log in to your WordPress Dashboard (where you can edit your website from) go to yoursite.com/wp-admin and use the login information from the email.
That’s all there is to installing WordPress on Hostgator – I told you it was easy
That’s also the last essential aspect of how to develop a website from scratch (domain, host and software). But there’s obviously still a few things to do. What you have now is comparable with a blank canvas. So now it’s time to take a look at the design.
